Dress Your Shape...

Every girl has a different body and different body shape.  There are varieties of prom dress styles to guarantee every girl can find a dress right for their body type.  Every girl deserves to flatter their figure for prom and look like a star on their prom night!  Grand Prom is here to help you find the right dress for you body!

Apple Figure  |  Hourglass Figure  |  Slender Figure  |  Petite Figure  |  Pear Figure

Apple Figure:
full, rounded figure

Girls with an apple figure have a fuller body type, and perfect prom dress styles for an apple shaped body are empire waist dresses, short hem dresses, and drop waist dresses.  These body types can still pull off the cute full, princess dresses but need a drop waist - the waistline needs to end lower than the hips.  Compliment the drop waist dress with a corset style bodice and you have the perfect ball gown prom dress for your body.  An empire waist, waist line stopping right below the bust line, helps flatter the rounder figure giving a slimmer illusion to the rest of your body - also known as baby doll dresses.  Empire waist completed with a short hem line gives your body a slimmer, elongated look.

Hourglass Figure:
curvy, fuller bust and hips with a slimmer waist
An hourglass figure is a curvaceous body shape with a bigger bust line, fuller hips, and a slim waist.  The best prom dress styles for an hourglass shape contain strapless necklines and cinched waists.  These two attributes on a dress not only flatter your figure, but help flaunt those assets in a subtle and classy way.  Sweetheart or scoop necklines give a little more dimension to the bodice with strapless prom dresses.  Cinched waists can be found in corset style bodices or even with a dress containing a sash.  Try to steer clear of flowy A-line prom dresses, empire waistlines, and baby doll dresses because your figure gets lost in these styles.  Mermaid prom dresses, fit and flare dresses, and tight sheath dresses are a few other good silhouettes to find a tighter bodice because you want to accent your slimmer waistline to help show off your curvy body shape.

Slender Figure:
no curves, slim body with little to no bust or hips

Anybody with a slender figure has a very straight body line with no curves.  Slender body shapes want to meet the goal of finding the dresses giving off the illusion of curves.  Empire waist dresses, bubble hem skirts, and trapeze A-line dresses are the best prom dress styles for a slender body type.  The empire waist dresses and trapeze A-line dresses are going to help give curves nobody has ever seen on you before.  Another great flattering dress for the slender body shape are column dresses.  Column dresses elongate the body frame giving you more shape.  Ball gowns also create a curvy look for slimmer bodies; the tight corset bodices cinch the waist for the illusion of more curves.  The slender figures have the best opportunity to try out fun ruching dresses, vibrant colors, and bold patterns.

Petite Figure:
not tall, short legs and torso

A petite girl is fairly short who needs to find the best prom dress styles giving her the illusion of looking taller and longer.  If you are a petite body shaped girl, you need to stay away from ball gowns because they swallow you losing your body and making you look shorter.  Short hem dresses are the best style for petite girls; short and sassy is the motto to go by for the petite body shape.  Short dresses make your legs and torso look longer, plus you can add a really cute pair of prom shoes with a short hem.  Empire waist dresses also elongate the figure with the flow of the skirt, but keep it complimented with a short hem.  Petite girls should shy away from long dresses, but if you want a long dress go with a sleek body hugging sheath gown - anything too loose and you will be lost in it just like the ball gown losing the effect of taller and longer.

Pear Figure:
hippy, very little to no bust usually matching up with the waist size but fuller hips

Pear figures are a little tricky to dress because their smaller bust & waist but fuller hips.  With a pear shaped body you want to find a way to give yourself more curves at the top of your bodice to match your hips.  Empire waist dresses really help give you more curves because of the flow of the skirt coming off below the bust line.  You really want to try to stay away from sleek body hugging dresses such as mermaid and fit & flare dresses because those will do the opposite of what you want.  You may think ball gowns are a no-go because of their silhouette and big skirt, but really the hips are under the full skirt and a corset bodice will give you more curves with a tight waistline.  A few others good for pear figure bodies are flowy A-line and sheath dresses.  The flowing fabric will create the illusion of your upper body matching your hips.
